Did anyone find out anything interesting at the party? I think I might've gotten something . . . I don't know if it's important. It seems as if Billy is nice as long as you play along -- He likes fire a lot, and he likes it when you don't mind about him setting them. If you say anything about it, though, he gets upset really quickly.

It might be nothing. I don't know. If anyone runs into him, though . . . try and humor him. . . . Maybe things would have gone differently if I agreed.

[For anyone who runs into him, Lucas now dons a stylish hat pulled down low over his face, and a strip of cloth cut as a mask wrapped around the top of his head with a single eyehole for his right eye. If anyone asks, he is playing cops and robbers. He bumps into things a lot.]

If you hear anything, I want to know. I don't like feeling as if I'd wasted my evening.

I'll let you know. But I'm hoping they'll say it publicly . . . We had enough with the people keeping stuff to themselves last time.

Um. Right. I guess at the very least, we learned not to take them too lightly. Like a moral or something.

I want back in. All he did was get me tanked... That's hardly a deterrent.

If he really wanted to do that, why didn't he do it then?

Why didn't Billy set me on fire the moment I started talking to him? Why didn't Jane cut off Pokey's fingers as soon as they bumped into each other?

It's just their sort of game . . .

I'd never heard of Jane doing anything to anyone until last night, but I think we all knew Billy was a big pain in the butt. . . . And everyone is afraid of Lucy, of course.

... I'm not afraid of her.

I wonder where she was last night.

... She wasn't there?

I saw them all except her, anyway. . . . Someone should ask if they ran into Lucy.

... If she wasn't there... but we all were...

I'd thought about that, too, but I wouldn't say it yet. Only about half of us went, I think, and it's too early to say that Lucy wasn't there.

It is something to think about . . .

There has to be a reason for it, anyway.

It would be rather convenient for her, if we were all distracted... those of us interested in changing things around here.

Looking back now, someone should've realized it was stupid for everyone to pour in at once.

. . . I wonder what the distraction was for, though, if that's what it was. I mean, even if we know Lucy wasn't there. What was she doing?
