[Ness's near-incoherent screaming produces no noticeable effect at first. Lucas continues to defend himself from his demons the only way he knows how, the voices continue to deride and taunt, nothing about his declarations seem to reach the boy at all.
Slowly, though, as his words build in intensity, the other boy may notice a slight change. Lucas's eyes begin to clear as his body relaxes, and the voices, persistent though they are, seem to decrease in volume. By the time Ness has concluded his fervent panegyric, Lucas's attention has fallen completely from his nightmares and are now focused entirely upon the boy he seems to vaguely recognize.
