Twenty-Fourth PSI

U-Um.  Sorry about all the weird stuff I did this weekend.  I don't think I actually hurt anyone, but . . . I think I said a lot of rude things.  The, um.  Psychic PSIclone is setting down his cape.  Permanently.  And if I did hurt you, let me know and I'll make it up to you.

I'd like to make a request of you all.  It's a little strange, but.  It would help me a lot.  I'm asking for someone -- or several . . . ones -- to attack me.  The more powerful you are, the better.  And . . . you can use PSI or magic or anything else you know how to use, too.  . . . Maybe even a gun.

Thanks.  Just come by my house if you want to try.  I don't have anything else to do today.

"I need to stop jumping the gun on calling him back..."

[Dawn calls Pachirisu out again. By this point, he's looking a little irritated with her at the constant back-and-forth.]

"Sorry! Just once or twice more, okay? I'll feed you as many poffins as you want afterward!"

[The little squirrel immediately brightens up at that, smiling and nodding cheerfully.]

[Lucas ducks his head in a quick apology.]

If you could . . . One more time.

[Two castings of Defense Up Omega cause Lucas to begin to glow as brightly as a torch. He raises a hand to signify that he's ready.]

"One more, Pachirisu! Make it good! Discharge!"

[And just like before, blue lightning is quickly cascading toward Lucas.]

[As the lightning strikes, Lucas withstands the electric current without nearly as much of a fuss. It is like the feeling of being shocked by static electricity . . . Just held constant.]

[And soon enough, the attack ends. Pachirisu looks at Dawn expectantly. She laughs a little and digs into her backpack for some poffins, tossing them over to the little squirrel and patting him on the head.]

"Good job, Pachirisu!"

Phew.

[In a flash of light, his defenses fade away and Lucas plops on the ground with a sigh. He was much too out of practice . . . ]

I know. I just usually don't use my Pokemon to fight anything but other Pokemon.

Well, I train my Pokemon for contests, so they like dressing up and looking cute more. But there's always a battling round for contests too, so they have to be pretty well-rounded to win. But yeah, they're always doing their best at both!

[It's a little strange to him that the culture of the world Dawn and Ash come from revolves around forcing small animals to fight, but it doesn't seem as if they're particularly unhappy about it . . . ]

I talked to someone else from your world just now, I think. Do you know an Ash?

Yeah, Ash is one of my friends from home. We were traveling together before I came here.

It's good to have your friends with you here. Well . . . Sort of. But he seemed like he liked battling a lot.

Yeah, Ash is a trainer, so he does gym battles instead of contests. His Pokemon are better fighters than mine.

So in a gym battle . . . It's something like what Pachirisu just did? They shoot electricity or other magic at each other?

Something like that, yeah. They have matches to see whose Pokemon is stronger and better trained.

And people are trying to prove that they're the best in the world?

Yeah, pretty much. There's competitions everywhere for that kinda stuff. Contests too.

Do the two of you ever battle about that, then?

We've both competed in contests before, if that's what you mean. Ash usually doesn't make it very far, but he always has fun.

Ah, what I meant was . . . do you two ever have gym battles with each other to see who's stronger?

Oh... no, not really. He's a trainer and I'm a coordinator, so it really wouldn't be an even match anyway. Ash would probably win in a straight Pokemon battle, since that's what he spends all his time training for. We do practice against each other, though. He lets me try out new contest moves on him, and I help him get ready to fight gym leaders.
