Twenty-Fourth PSI

U-Um. Sorry about all the weird stuff I did this weekend. I don't think I actually hurt anyone, but . . . I think I said a lot of rude things. The, um. Psychic PSIclone is setting down his cape. Permanently. And if I did hurt you, let me know and I'll make it up to you.

I'd like to make a request of you all. It's a little strange, but. It would help me a lot. I'm asking for someone -- or several . . . ones -- to attack me. The more powerful you are, the better. And . . . you can use PSI or magic or anything else you know how to use, too. . . . Maybe even a gun.

Thanks. Just come by my house if you want to try. I don't have anything else to do today.

"Yeah, we'll definitely need some room."

[Dawn smiles and follows him back there.]

[Once they're settled, Lucas . . . awkwardly waits.]

So . . . Whenever you're ready. Please don't hold back.

"All right!"

[Dawn grabs one of the Pokeballs from her belt, tossing it up into the air with a flourish.]

"Pachirisu, spotlight!"

[There's an explosion of confetti and white light, and suddenly there's an adorable blue and white squirrel standing in front of Lucas.]

. . . Pachirisu?

[Lucas blinks in mild surprise at the creature.]

"He's one of my Pokemon. Pachirisu is an electric squirrel."

[Pachirisu nods enthusiastically at the introduction.]

[Having just had that conversation with Ash below, Lucas sort of understands.]

The animals with magic powers? OK. It'll be a lot more like what I'm used to, actually -- fighting chimera.

Great! Are you ready, then? We'll give it everything we've got!

Right. Go ahead and hit me before I put up any defenses, first.

Are you sure you'll be okay?

Well. It would be nice if you tried not to kill me, but I can heal myself pretty well.

"All right, then... Pachirisu, Discharge attack!"

[The little squirrel nods as Dawn calls out her command, charging up blue electricity in its cheeks. Within moments, it arcs to the tail, and then fires out toward Lucas in a series of lightning bolts.]

Wha --

[OK so electric squirrel meant 'squirrel that could shoot electricity'. Lucas probably should've figured that out but he had been a little distracted by the glittery sparkles and stuff from the Pokeball.

It's like taking a PK Thunder. There is the unpleasant charred smell of electrocuted flesh as Lucas doesn't do anything to defend himself. . . . After a few jolts, he falls sideways, twitching slightly.]

"Pachirisu, return!"

[Dawn calls him back to the Pokeball, running over to check on Lucas.]

"Are you okay? I'm so sorry!"

[Lucas quickly raises an arm. This is ostensibly to signify that he is OK, but it might not be very reassuring. After a few moments, Dawn may notice the sparkles that flash over him every half minute or so; he sits up shortly after.]

I-I'm fine! That's exactly what I wanted, actually.

Are you sure? That looks like it really hurt...

I-It was more painful than I thought it would be. But, really, it's OK.

[The Refresh continues to bring him back up to health as he wipes some of the cartoon soot off his face.]

U-Um. So the point was to try it without and then to try it . . . with.

"...Okay. One more time, then."

[Dawn looks pretty uneasy about it, but she calls Pachirisu back out.]

"Anytime you're ready."

[No more testing without shields in the future. Lucas immediately throws up a shimmering purple PSI Shield. Electricity ought to fall under that category.]

OK.

"All right, Pachirisu, give it your best! Discharge!"

[Pachirisu nods and smiles, charging up the same attack again and letting loose with all he's got. Dawn watches carefully, interested to see how it will fare against Lucas' shield.]

[As it strikes, a good portion of the electric shock is arced off to the side to harmless strike the ground -- An equal portion, though, slips through to shock him. This is enough to send him to the ground on one knee, though. Lucas grits his teeth and bears it out; when it's over, he stands back up and manages a smile.]

Well. I think it was exactly half as bad.

"You're gonna be okay, right?"

[Calls Pachirisu back to the Pokeball again.]

Y-Yeah. Wait, a few more times.

[Lucas heals the damage again and stands back up fully, breathing a bit more heavily than he had at the start. Being shocked wasn't very fun.

Defense Up Omega! The light shining from his hand begins to dance under his skin.]

Want to try a different attack this time? I could get Buneary out here instead...

It might be best to try with the same one, just so the comparison is right. I don't mind taking on Buneary afterwards, too, though.

"I need to stop jumping the gun on calling him back..."

[Dawn calls Pachirisu out again. By this point, he's looking a little irritated with her at the constant back-and-forth.]

"Sorry! Just once or twice more, okay? I'll feed you as many poffins as you want afterward!"

[The little squirrel immediately brightens up at that, smiling and nodding cheerfully.]
