Twenty-Fourth PSI

U-Um. Sorry about all the weird stuff I did this weekend. I don't think I actually hurt anyone, but . . . I think I said a lot of rude things. The, um. Psychic PSIclone is setting down his cape. Permanently. And if I did hurt you, let me know and I'll make it up to you.

I'd like to make a request of you all. It's a little strange, but. It would help me a lot. I'm asking for someone -- or several . . . ones -- to attack me. The more powerful you are, the better. And . . . you can use PSI or magic or anything else you know how to use, too. . . . Maybe even a gun.

Thanks. Just come by my house if you want to try. I don't have anything else to do today.

Actually, it's for Grady. I don't want to hurt you kid... But if you need to test something I'll help. You want a fist, my boot, or this golf club?

Um. Let's go outside first . . .

[Lucas closes the door behind him and leads the Captain around to the back yard.]

The thing is that I got a lot of my defensive PSI back just now. I want to see how strong it is against the powers of people from other worlds.

Ah... yeah I didn't get powers back this time. I didn't really get anything useful.

[He really didn't want to talk about it.]

So defensive right? Lets see if it can take a solid blow.

OK. Then hit me as hard as you can!

[Lucas was fairly sure not even a golf club would hurt too badly -- He'd fought tanks before with the same shields. But maybe the Captain's world made golf clubs a lot stronger.]

Try this first!

[After the initial glow, the bubble of light that Lucas had used in the past surrounds him. This was his standard Shield.]

[Well that was something. The only time he used that around The Captain, The Captain had been dead.]

Well, let's go.

[They weren't exceptionally strong. He swung the golf club as hard as he could aiming for the kid's side.]

[Unprepared for real combat after eight or nine months of being out of practice, the swing hurt a lot more than Lucas expected. Although the golf club appeared to bounce off the Shield, the blow was still enough to send him reeling a bit to the side.

As a matter of fact, the blow had been reduced in force by exactly 50%. There is a crack in the Shield now. Lucas recovers himself.]

OK. . . . Please try it again.

[The light that shines from his palm sinks into his body and begins to expand, leaving strange markings as it dances around his body. Defense Up Omega.]

[Winces after seeing the kid reeling.]

You sure about this one?

[Though who was he to question. He swung again, this time a chop from the other side, still aiming at his ribs.]

[A cry tears from Lucas's lips as the golf club strikes, though it is less a cry of pain and more of a . . . well. Battle cry of sorts.

He barely even moves this time, although he does reach down and apply some PSI to his ribs.]

OK! One last time; knock me upside the head!

[Defense Up! If the Captain were to touch his flesh, he would find that it was almost like stone. Lucas is a little too excited about this.]

....

Whatever you say kid.

[Swings a hard downward chop, right at the top of the kid's head.]

[Thonk.

The shield shatters into shards of psychokinetic power that absorb back into Lucas; the Defense Up spells, however, continue to infuse Lucas's body with light.]

Thanks, Mr. Captain. That's a good base . . .

[He doesn't seem much perturbed at all. It had felt like someone had thwacked him with a karate chop, but that wasn't enough to make him do much more than flinch and rub a bit at his head. Full damage reduction: ~80%]

[Blinks at that. Nodding slowly.]

Kid, you are going to be a ☠☠☠☠ terror if someone things they can ☠☠☠☠ with you.

A-Ah, thanks. But those were only normal hits and attacks and stuff. I don't know how well it would stand up to some of the superpowers people have around here . . .

And the important thing is --

[Lucas raises a hand and the Shield materializes around the Captain.]

I can do it for other people.

[Blinks. Grins.]

Now that is something kid. Hopefully I'll get my invincibility back and won't need it but...

[Well he wasn't quite invincible back then but still!]

PSI has a little to do with your personality. So . . . the thing I wanted most was to be able to protect the people I cared for.

I hope you do, too. B-But! Be careful when you're not, OK?

[No more killing yourself in front of him.]

That's pretty great kid. I'm not sure why my powers work like they do. They're just kind of my generic package of super powers.

Probably better that way, I don't even want to think of what PSI would do with me.

[Not quite getting what it is but liking what he sees.]

. . . Well, PSI is usually helpful no matter what it is. One of my closest friends learns how to set things on fire or freeze them or blast them with meteors.

I had a friend who could hit things with light. Another who made things explode. Also there was a robot. And another one of my friends had the power to shoot things dead.

O-Oh.

Don't guns already do that last one pretty well?

Yeah, but she's immortal and can tell you what kinda bullet to use. Like silver against werewolves. Or some funky wood against those demons with five ☠☠☠☠.

I hate the demons with five ☠☠☠☠...

That sounds pretty useful. My dog can do something like that -- smell weaknesses.

Five . . . whats?

Five ☠☠☠☠. Uh...

Girls have a ☠☠☠☠, guys have a ☠☠☠☠ sort. The thing had five of them.

It could have at least worn pants, ☠☠☠☠ demons.

. . . I'm not really sure what you're saying, but I'm just gonna assume having five of that is bad.

Bad if you're on the receiving end.

Not sure how it felt about having those, though it seemed pretty ☠☠☠☠ proud.
