Tenth PSI

[open call]
 . . . Hello?  Um.  Is this . . . Is this the right number?  This is Mayfield Elementary . . . ?

I'd, um.  I'd like to call in sick.  Lucas . . . Last name?  Ushiromiya.  . . . . . . . .  There isn't any -- A-Ah.  Lucas . . . Lucas Fawlin . . . Grade 7.  No, I just haven't been feeling well . . . Ah.  Mostly fever . . . . . . . . A hundred and um.  Three or four.  U-Up my . . . No.  No.  My mouth . . . A few days.  No.  I haven't seen the nurse . . . Um.  Not yet . . .  My parents . . . ?  They're not home.  And I . . . I don't want to bother them . . . I don't know.  I . . . I really don't think I can.  I don't . . . But I -- I know, but.  It's just . . .  I'm really not . . .

. . .

O-OK.  OK.  I'll try . . . I'm sorry for the trouble . . .

[Ten minutes after this call is made, an unsteady figure walks out the steps of 846 Goldberg, his face flushed and his eyes glossy.  Twenty minutes after that, the boy slowly begins to kneel to the sidewalk somewhere on the route to school, but fails to make it all the way before collapsing forward.  He does not get back up.]

((Feel free to make responses to the phone call or anytime that Lucas is spotted on the street, either after he faints or before.
EDIT: For continuity's sake, I'm going to refer to Margot as finding Lucas first if I make any reference to this simply because she had the first thread.  I wasn't expecting so many replies; thanks everyone!  He'll still remember everyone's kindness to him, though.))

[He sat back in his chair and watches with complete interest and what he was seeing not only startled him, but enlightened him.]

Well, I'll be....this is....

[He chuckles softly and puts his hand to his mouth, completely astonished.]

This is....wonderful! If you need more, I can certainly give you some.

[identity profile] a-gentle-boy.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
. . . What?

[Lucas glances down at himself and notes, in mild surprise, the purple sparks flying off his body. In the same instant, he also seems to realize that he suddenly feels 100% better. He suddenly smiles.]

Dr. Crane? Mr. Captain? I'd like for the two of you to take my hand.

[identity profile] passes-out.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods and takes the boy by his hand without giving it a second thought with a small but steady smile.]

Very well.

I'm not sure if Captain is still following this thread, so I'll just continue if that's alright.

[identity profile] a-gentle-boy.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Once the two of them were holding on, Lucas closed his eyes. Physical touch wasn't necessary for this to work, but it somehow made him feel like it was more meaningful. As he concentrated, the purple streaks began to swirl about his body, slowly coalescing around his hand until it was glowing with a brilliant intensity.]

. . . . . . REFRESH!

[A massive wave of energy shoots outward from him in every direction, first enveloping Ichabod and the Captain before spreading out through the hospital. Those patients in close proximity to Lucas's room would soon find themselves miraculously recovering within a few hours. Ichabod and the Captain would receive the effects of feeling incredible for a good period of time.]

I sure hope so, 'cause this is awesome!! I'll PM with the thread.

[identity profile] passes-out.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
[His eyes blinked to block out the sudden surge of light and the fatigue from working so many long hours had suddenly melted away, giving way to an incredible sense of energy as if he had just woken up from a good night's sleep without the grogginess. He looked at Lucas and was completely astonished.]

This ability of yours...is incredible.

[He was certainly now going to reveal to the drone doctors what he had just witnessed and what just happened despite that it was Mayfield that took away their powers and it was slowly giving them back.]

I wasn't sure if he would care about an old thread, but thanks!

[And with the release of the PSI had gone his fever. Lucas tentatively felt his own forehead for a few moments before smiling again.]

Oh, i-it's not really. I think it must be extra powerful when it's first released, though . . . Ah, I'm sorry for taking up your time and space, Dr. Crane.

Not a problem.

[identity profile] passes-out.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
[He looked to Lucas curiously and gave a nod.]

Well, you were no trouble at all. In fact, I learned something and I gained something even more so you were not a waste of time at all.

[identity profile] a-gentle-boy.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Well he feels a little silly now since he's sitting there feeling absolutely fine and dandy. Lucas slowly maneuvers himself off the cot with an embarrassed smile on his face.]

I-I guess. I should be getting to school. Um. And. I'm not too sure exactly what I just did, b-but the hospital might be short on work today. Sorry . . .

[identity profile] passes-out.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Ichabod laughs and shakes his head.]

Well, if that is the case, I welcome it. I could use the time off and I am sure that you will need a ride to school, yes?

[identity profile] a-gentle-boy.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, please don't worry about it. I can walk.

[Lucas has no idea where the hospital is in relation to the school, though.]

[identity profile] passes-out.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
[He thought about this for a moment and shook his head.]

No, the school is much too far for you to walk alone. I shall take you there and I shall explain to the school what has happened. It will be no trouble at all since...well...I have free time to spare.

[identity profile] a-gentle-boy.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
. . . It's probably better if you don't. Explain what happened, I mean. They won't believe it and they'll just give me detention for making up stories. Could you say I was sick, but you treated me, and now I feel a lot better?

[identity profile] passes-out.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives a nods and smile as he grabs his hat and coat before telling the nurse that he was heading out for a short while.]

Well, that was my intention. I would never say to the school what you were treated for or how you were cured. It is none of their concern.

[identity profile] a-gentle-boy.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I'm sorry again for taking up so much of your time . . .

[identity profile] passes-out.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
It is no trouble at all, Lucas.

[And out of the hospital and toward the parking lot they go. Must be nice to live in a simpler time period with a simpler set of rules. He unlocked the car door in the doctor's parking lot. Since driving an automatic was far easier than a stick, he had no trouble staying on the road and avoiding poles.]
